The Supreme Court of India, in its judgement of 26th April, 2011, has ruled that Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) will not be allowed to collect airport development fee (ADF) at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM). As per the judgement, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) will have to pass an appropriate order for continuation of the ADF levy at Mumbai Airport.

With immediate effect, no development fee (TFC code: IN) is to be collected on tickets for passengers departing from BOM airport.

IATA has been advised about the withdrawal of the fee at BOM and systems (GDS) are expected to implement the same very soon.

This Circular is issued as advance notice to request travel agents and airline offices to stop collecting UDF at BOM through manual tarrification until such time the same is automated in the systems.

Please inform all concerned under your jurisdiction for necessary action.

We quote below Advisory for Indian Nationals received from Embassy of India, Bangkok :-

“There have been a number of cases where Indian nationals visiting Pattaya were cheated by local operators who rent out motorcycles, speed boats and jet skis. Some of these operators have been demanding exorbitant amounts from tourists claiming that the motor cycle/speed boat/jet ski rented out had been damaged as a result of an accident. In most cases, the damage caused was actually the result of pre-planned action, whereby an accomplice of the operator was responsible for the accident. In some such cases, the Embassy did manage to intervene with the help of the Royal Thai Police and the Indian community leaders in Pattaya. To prevent Indian tourists falling into such traps, the Embassy of India has posted a comprehensive advisory titled ’For Indian visitors to Thailand’.”
